Praise God, the £10,000 target has been reached

In the darkness and despair of one of the worst slums in the world, God has called our partner Joe Gonzales, and his friends to bring light and hope and the gospel to young people. Joe himself is an ex gang leader in Tondo who was touched by the love of God. Many thousands of young people, their parents, and their teachers are being touched by this ministry.

Their charity is SIKATT ( Sibikong Kabataang Taga – Tondo ) which translates - Jesus Christ is the Saviour of Tondo! For many years God has given Joe a vision to open a centre for young people. A place of safety where they can grow and learn. We at AMEN believed that God wanted this to become a reality in 2010, and to achieve this we needed £10,000.

We launched an appeal in June 2010 and by November 2010 the target had been reached. In the meantime the SIKATT team in Philippines had been raising money locally, but also they had been searching for a suitable location. Praise God that a wonderful location has been found - an unused section of a new sports centre - so young people who are members of the Centre can also use sports facilities at discounted prices!

Donations can still be made towards the ongoing running of the Centre, but we would also like to grow the SIKATT Scholarship programme. This was started 3 years ago for children who could not otherwise afford to complete their High School education. Initially funded by AMEN for 5 students, the number has now grown to 21 with local support.
